Arts and Culture
Downtown Marysville beats to the rhythm of an exuberant community of writers,
musicians, actors and artisans of every ilk – providing rich cultural experiences,
artistic and creative outlets and venues for both education and entertainment.
Creativity is one cornerstone that will absolutely support a healthy and prosperous
city; Downtown Marysville sees the value of being that foundation.
Currently, there are many fantastic traditions in the downtown, including open mike
nights and bluegrass sessions at The Brick Coffeehouse Café,
writing groups, author signings, poetry nights and book clubs at
Amicus Books,
children’s art and literary activities at the Yuba County Library and monthly local art
exhibitions at True Bright, The Brick, Yuba County Library, and
Camelot Gallery.
Marysville is also very proud to be the home of many organizations and businesses working
explicitly to promote the arts. Among them are the
Yuba Sutter Regional Arts Council, whose mission it is to “increase public awareness
of and participation in the arts,” the Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts,
a division of Marysville Joint Unified School District, dedicated to the creative side of
academic development, Golden Valley Art Center, and the Yuba County Library.
Camelot Gallery has
played a very important role in the downtown renaissance. Not only have they brought the work of
Thomas Kinkade to Marysville visitors and residents, they are also an elegant venue of original
works from local artists and photographers. Also, Amicus Books’ Literary Arts Center is dedicated to
providing support to the area’s many local authors, as well as workshops and weekly writing groups
to our community’s brilliant wordsmiths.
For a monthly schedule of arts, entertainment and cultural events grab a copy of the Territorial
Dispatch, available at many downtown shops.
An upcoming new addition to the downtown family is Gallery One – look for nationally renowned photographer
Brian Shul.
